Who Lucy is

Lucy co-owns Sentia. She has collected fragrance for years — niche houses first, designer alongside — and she composes her own, which is a different kind of knowledge from wearing them: it means knowing what a material does inside a composition, not just what it is called on a label.

Professionally she works in finance, which is where Sentia’s interest in what a bottle actually costs per wear comes from.

What Lucy reviews

Every fragrance page before it is published. Specifically:

• — the notes, checked against the maker’s own listing and, where she owns it, the bottle
• — the house and concentration, which are wrong more often than you would expect
• — whether a listed note is plausible in the composition, which a collector who also creates can judge
• — whether the description actually describes the smell, or just sounds like it does

How a page gets reviewed

Pages are drafted from the fragrance house’s own published listing — never from another database. Lucy then reads the draft against what she knows and what she owns. Anything she cannot confirm is cut rather than softened. A page that says less and is right is worth more than a page that reads well and is wrong.
