Sentia is built so that you can use it without telling us anything. This page says exactly what is stored, where, and what you can do about it. Sentia, 1800 N Field St, Dallas, TX 75202, United States, is responsible for the data described here.
The short version
- No account: your shelf lives only on your device. Nothing about it is sent to us. The one exception is a shelf photo you choose to scan, below.
- With an account: your shelf is backed up to our database so it survives a cleared browser and shows up on your other devices.
- Outfit photos never leave your device, with or without an account.
- No ads. Google Analytics runs only after you say yes on the first visit. Apart from that, the app adds to a few anonymous daily totals, with no cookie, no identifier and no IP address kept. We do not sell or share your data.
- You can delete your account, and its backup, yourself at any time from your account page.
If you use Sentia without an account
Your bottles, the wears you log, any detail you add to a wear, your wishlist, your answers to the setup questions and any outfit photos are stored in your browser's own storage on your device. We cannot see them. Clearing the site data for trysentia.com in your browser deletes them. (The Android app keeps its data in Chrome, so uninstalling the app alone does not.)
If you scan a shelf photo
Scanning is optional. When you choose a photo, it is shrunk on your device and sent once to our AI provider, Anthropic, to read the bottle labels; the labels come back and the photo is discarded. We do not store the photo, and it is not part of your backup. Only the bottles you then tick are added to your shelf.
If you create an account
We store:
- Your email address, to sign you in and to reach you about your account.
- Your password, only as a one-way hash. We cannot read it, and we will never ask you for it.
- If you continue with Google: the email address and name Google sends us, and Google's account id, so the same account opens next time. No password is stored for you. Google sees that you signed in to Sentia, under its own privacy policy.
- A backup of your collection: your bottles, your wears and any details you added to them (such as occasion, clothing, notes and weather), your wishlist and your setup answers. Outfit photos are not included.
- If you subscribe: your Stripe customer number, which plan you are on and until when. Your card details go to Stripe and never reach us. If you subscribe in the Android app instead, we keep the Google Play purchase token, which plan and until when, so the subscription unlocks your account on every device. Your payment details stay with Google.
Signing in sets a cookie that keeps you signed in. It is not used for anything else.
If you sign up for product updates
We store your email address, the time you agreed to be emailed, your answers to the two optional questions if you gave them, and which link brought you to the page. We use them to send occasional updates about Sentia and nothing else. Every email lets you unsubscribe, and you can ask us to delete your address at any time.
Google Analytics, if you say yes
On your first visit a small line asks whether we may count visits with Google Analytics. Until you answer, and if you answer no, the analytics script sends no cookie and no identifier. If you answer yes, Google sets its analytics cookie and we see which pages are read, roughly where from, and which of a handful of actions were taken: a bottle added, a wear logged, a shelf scanned, a sign-up, a checkout. Never which bottle, which wear, or who you are. IP addresses are not stored by Google Analytics 4. Change your answer any time by clearing this site's data in your browser; the question is asked again.
Anonymous daily totals
Whatever you answer about Google Analytics, the app sends us a short note when one of these steps happens: the app is opened, a bottle is added, your scent profile appears, a wear is logged, the paywall appears, an account is created or signed in to, a checkout starts or completes, or a shelf photo is scanned.
Each note carries only the step's name and one rough label: whether it was your first bottle or wear, how long ago the oldest bottle on your shelf was added (the same day, under a week, under a month, or longer), or, for a checkout, whether it was the weekly or the yearly plan. We add one to that day's total for the step and keep nothing else — no cookie, no identifier, no IP address, no details of your device. The totals cannot be traced back to you or to each other. Our host logs requests briefly, as described below.
Weather on a wear
Only if you choose to add the weather to a wear: your device's location, rounded to about 11 km, is sent to Open-Meteo to look up the temperature for that day. The location is not kept — only the temperature and a short description are saved with the wear.
Who processes data for us
- Vercel hosts the website and the app. Like any web host, its servers briefly log requests, including IP addresses.
- Neon hosts our database — accounts and backups — in the United States.
- Cloudflare runs our domain and forwards email sent to hi@trysentia.com.
- Open-Meteo answers weather lookups, only when you ask for one.
- Google Analytics counts visits and the handful of actions above, only after you have said yes, under Google's privacy policy.
- Google Play distributes the Android app and may show its own review prompt inside it, under Google's privacy policy. It also takes the payment when you subscribe in the Android app; we ask Google only whether that subscription is active and until when.
- Stripe takes payments for Sentia Plus, holds your card details and sends the receipts, under its own privacy policy. We receive only your customer number and the state of your plan.
How long we keep it
- Your account and its backup: until you delete the account.
- Your product-updates email: until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete it.
- After you delete your account, it is removed from our database straight away. It may remain for a short time in our database provider's routine backups before those expire.
Your rights
Wherever you live, you can ask us to show you the data we hold about you, give you a copy, correct it or delete it. If you are in the EU or the UK you also have the right to object to how we use it and to complain to your data protection authority.
The quickest way to delete everything is the Delete account button on your account page. For anything else, email hi@trysentia.com from the address on your account.
Children
Sentia is not meant for children under 16, and we do not knowingly collect data from them.
Changes
If this policy changes, the date at the top changes with it. If a change affects data we already hold, we will tell account holders by email before it applies.
