What notes are in Parfums de Marly Layton?

Parfums de Marly lists ten notes for Layton: apple, bergamot and cardamom on top; lavender, violet and geranium at the heart; patchouli, vanilla, guaicwood and praline in the base.

  • No jasmine. The house pyramid omits it, though its own page description names jasmine in the heart.
  • Praline is the tell. Most pages drop it; it appears in Parfums de Marly's own base list.
  • Five of ten are on the label. Bergamot, lavender, geranium, patchouli and vanillin appear by name.
  • One concentration, three sizes. Parfums de Marly sells Layton as an Eau de Parfum in 75ml, 125ml and 200ml.

The disagreement

Where the jasmine comes from

A great many pages list jasmine in Layton’s heart. Parfums de Marly does not. Their pyramid says lavender, violet and geranium.

The likely source is the brand’s own page. Its meta description — the summary Google and social cards read, not the visible page — describes an “expressive heart of jasmine, violet and geranium.” The word appears three times in the page’s metadata and not once in the pyramid below it. The same metadata still says the fragrance comes in 75ml or 125ml, while the page sells three sizes.

So the house says one thing to a reader and another to a crawler, and the crawler version is the one that spread.

What the ingredients label confirms

Layton’s EU label names 28 items. Five of the ten published notes appear on it under their material names:

The other five — apple, cardamom, violet, guaicwood and praline — do not appear. That is not evidence they are absent. Under EU cosmetics law a whole fragrance composition may be declared as the single word “Parfum”, and only specified allergens must be broken out separately. The label confirms five notes and is silent, by law, on the rest.

Does Layton contain jasmine?
Parfums de Marly's own olfactive pyramid does not list jasmine. Its heart is lavender, violet and geranium. The confusion comes from the brand's own page metadata, which describes an 'expressive heart of jasmine, violet and geranium' — wording that appears in the page's meta description but nowhere in the pyramid itself.
Why is praline missing from most Layton note lists?
Praline is the fourth base note Parfums de Marly publishes, and it is the one third-party pages most often drop. It is a quick way to tell whether a page copied the house or copied another blog.
Do Layton's notes appear in its ingredients list?
